Sony Xperia Z1S makes a cameo on Sonys site

http://img.talkandroid.com/uploads/2013/11/sony_xperia_z1s_cameo_website.jpg

sony_xperia_z1s_cameo_website

With just one day until a possible announcement, Sonys Xperia Z1S is seeing what could be its final leak. As you can see at the top left, the device is a miniature version of their flagship Xperia Z1. But heres the catch, the specs arent going to be dumbed down even though the form factor is smaller. Behind the 4.3-inch 720p screen is the Snapdragon 800 processor and a 20.7MP camera. If youre interested, it may even windup on U.S. shores.

Mad Catz and NVIDIA are working together to bring GameStream to MOJO

http://img.talkandroid.com/uploads/2013/10/mad-catz-mojo-630x354.png

mad catz mojo

With NVIDIA funneling all of their streaming technology under one brand, Mad Catz has wanted to get their hands on GameStream. Now there is very good news regarding GameStreams presence on Mad Catzs MOJO. In an interview with Engadget, a PR director from the company said that were talking to NVIDIA and we hope to enable GameStream soon after the launch of the console. Currently, GameStream is only available on NVIDIAs SHIELD handheld console. When MOJO gets GameStream support, it would be the first third party device to do so. Its always a good sign when companies work with one another because it accomplishes a goal more efficiently; therefore, expect this to be done soon after MOJOs December 10 launch.

You can now customize your Moto X with Moto Maker on all four major U.S. carriers

http://img.talkandroid.com/uploads/2013/11/Moto_X_Colors_Circle-450x450.jpg

Moto_X_Colors_Circle

Well it doesnt always follow the rumor, but this time it did. It was expected that today would be the day the Moto Maker would become available on Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless. Well actually T-Mobile was rumored for last Friday, but we will let that slide. Motorola just announced that The Gift of Choice is officially available on all carriers. Previously it was only available on AT&T.

Motorola also announced that you can now choose a custom phrase for the back of your Moto X. This was something that was supposed to be implemented when the phone launched, but they werent happy with the quality. Apparently the fiber laser technology has been corrected. Last but not least, the price is $99 ($499 off contract) on all four carriers to celebrate. This price has already been available for most of the carriers, but Moto X is saying it will be for a limited time.

Quickoffice gets updated with more Google Drive integration

http://img.talkandroid.com/uploads/2013/09/Quickoffice3-630x441.png

Quickoffice3

Popular Android productivity suite Quickoffice has been given another update, making it much more integrated with Google Drive. Google bought the suite back in June, and since then we have seen a number of updates bringing Google Drive and Quickoffice closer and closer together.

This particular update means that when Google Drive and Quickoffice is installed on the same device, Google Drive will automatically open documents, spreadsheets and powerpoint presentations. The update also brought a few bug fixes and performance upgrades.

It seems to be only a matter of time until Quickoffice is phased out completely and Google Drive handles all your office needs on your Android Device. The question of when that will be remains unanswered, but in the meantime having both apps is becoming less and less of a problem as they become more integrated with each other.

Shazam adds new Explore feature, ability to purchase songs through Amazon and Google Play

http://img.talkandroid.com/uploads/2013/11/shazam_app_icon-450x450.png

shazam_app_icon

Shazam has released a new version of the app for Android devices that moves it closer to being a general purpose app for all your music needs while closing the feature gap with the iOS version. The biggest addition to this new version is Shazam’s “Explore” feature. This new feature uses aggregated data from users to find what is popular based on what is being tagged and displays the results on a zoomable map using the Google Maps API if you are on Android 4.x.

Shazam has also added a new wizard to make it easier to find and download apps from Amazon or Google Play from within the Shazam app. To get Shazam, hit one of the download links below.

Pictures suggest BlackBerry 10.2.1 could feature Google Play Store

http://img.talkandroid.com/uploads/2013/11/BlackBerry-1.png

BlackBerry 1

BlackBerry is currently working on the next version of their OS, 10.2.1, and we have some key information regarding the update which will perhaps make some BlackBerry users pretty happy.

A new Android Runtime is expected to be included in the next build of Blackberry 10, which will allow the Google Play Store to be available to BlackBerry users to download and install Android applications and other content to their devices.

This means no more side-loading, and would instantly make thousands of apps available for the platform, which has been the major shortcoming for BlackBerry.

As much as I hate to say it, this could actually be the beginnings of a BlackBerry comeback— it could make for a very nice option for those that enjoy the BlackBerry OS and hardware.

Although the pictures make this all pretty believable, it’s still all just a rumor so don’t get too excited just yet. Hit the break for more leaked pictures.

YouTube_comments_new_google+

With comments for YouTube now being done through Google+, not everyone is particularly happy. One of the many that are frustrated by this new system is the father of YouTube, Jawed Karim. Although Karim has not been a part of YouTube since Google bought the site, he voiced his anger about the new commenting system. And he emerged from the darkness and left a comment on his own profile. His exact words were “why the f*** do i need a google+ account to comment on a video?” There you have it. The kind words from Jawed Karim.

The tight Google+ integration has already gone live for the site. It even went live for the Android app without the need for a update in the Play Store. Now when you make comments on the video-sharing site, you’ll be able to share them on your Google+ account as well.

Android 4.4 KitKat makes its way to Sprint’s Galaxy Nexus via custom ROM “SlimKat”

While Google has abandoned the Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.4 KitKat not officially coming to the device, that never stops the resilient devs over on XDA. A dev team by the name of “SlimRoms” has built KitKat straight from source and made it available for most variants of the Galaxy Nexus, all was left was Sprint’s until recently when alpha builds of the ROM have been released. If you wish to flash this, you will need your bootloader to be unlocked and have a custom recovery installed. Considering this is still in alpha stages, bugs may be prevalent so be cautious.

Head over to the source link for the XDA thread and for download links.

CyanogenMod Oppo N1

The upcoming Oppo N1 will start shipping internationally this December, and one of its key features is that it will come with support to easily flash the CyanogenMod ROM. News also came in that there would be a limited edition version of the phone that would be pre-installed with CyanogenMod, and will be available at the same time as the regular variant.

A news release sent out today also mentioned that special features such as O-Touch and the O-Click Bluetooth remote will also be included. Elements of Oppo’s ColorOS will also be built in, with the ability to wake the phone by double-tapping its screen, much like LG’s “Knock-On” feature.

The limited edition variant will also come with some CyanogenMod extras, including a special edition case, stickers, and some other things. The best part of all this? The limited edition variant costs exactly the same as the standard version.

Anyone interested in picking one of these bad boys up?

Canada saw a Nexus 5 release earlier today, but they aren’t the only lucky ones. As Sprint announced in their press release, it will be offering the Nexus 5 starting today for only $49.99 on contract (16GB) if you’re switching carriers and porting a number acorss. Amazon and Best Buy also are starting to sell the device today, but for the standard $149.99 price on a new contract.

Off-contract, you’ll be able to get it from Amazon for $499.99 or Best Buy for less at $449.99. It appears that Sprint is not offering the device off-contract, but that may change.

Google Now could get exciting new features on November 13

http://img.talkandroid.com/uploads/2013/11/Google_Now_630.jpg

Google_Now_630

According to Wired, Google Now should be getting exciting new features on November 13. One of the things I have found lacking with Google Now is that it doesn’t have the ability to control other apps. This new update will allow search inside other applications as well as the ability to launch them. So for example, searching for a restaurant could yield results from OpenTable and you could open the app via voice to make a reservation.

Conversations is another area. Right now you can ask multiple questions, but Google Now never asks you anything back. Google Now will start asking you questions, so if you say, “text Robert”, you might get a reply, “which Robert”, or did you mean “Robert Smith or Robert Nazarian?”

Last but not least, better location cards will be coming. We already get transit times based on where you are, but you might get geyser times automatically when you are Yellowstone Park for example.

This sounds like some pretty cool stuff, but why didn’t Google include them when KitKat and the Nexus 5 were announced?

Verizon to offer discounts on past devices, Samsung tablets for Cyber Monday

Verizon

According to Twitter’s @evleaks, Verizon plans on kicking off the holiday season with some modest deals. For Cyber Monday, online shopping’s Black Friday, Verizon will take $150 off of Samsung tablets. It’s unclear whether this apply to the on-contract or off-contract prices. Also from Samsung will be the Galaxy Note II for $50 on-contract. More intriguingly is that the Motorola RAZR HD and Samsung Galaxy S III (from last year) will be just $1 dollar. So if you are a deal-stealer, this is one you should take a look at. But with the Moto X dropping to $99 and set to get Moto Maker treatment, we’re not sure why you would look at something else. This year, Cyber Monday is on December 2, so make note of that on your calendar.

Motorola files patent for “smart tattoo” on throat

http://img.talkandroid.com/uploads/2013/11/Wearable-Tattoo.png

Wearable Tattoo

We’ve seen some pretty crazy patents filed in the past few months, and simultaneously, wearables are becoming more and more popular in the mobile device industry.

But it still may be a bit surprising to find out that Motorola has just filed a patent for a “smart tattoo” which would be placed on one’s throat, and would act as a microphone to improve voice quality so well that you would be nearly crystal clear on the other end.

Most of these far-out patents don’t go into too much detail about how they will work, but Motorola’s filing actually gets pretty extensive. Hit the source link below for more information.

A lot of people think this idea is extremely ridiculous, and this could never possibly reach the market and be successful, but we have certainly been surprised before.
