http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/androidandme?i=Yp0A1kbSeJw:fhQ4zLYQFSE:D7DqB2pKExk

I hope you spent this past weekend getting your creative side ready for a workout, because Motorola just announced that the Moto Maker customization tool is now available to all four major US carriers. After launching exclusively with the AT&T-flavored Moto X back at the end of August, Moto Maker is now opened up to customers on Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon as of today. Moto Maker gives consumers the ability to alter the Moto Xs back and front colors as well as the hue of its camera ring and volume buttons. Users can also include either 16GB or 32GB of built-in storage, select a default wallpaper and add a unique boot screen message.

In addition to the expanded availability of Moto Maker, Motorola has slashed the price of the Moto X to $99.99 with a two-year contract for the 16GB model or $149.99 for the more capacious 32GB variant. Consumers who prefer to avoid signing a commitment can expect to pony up $499.99 or $549.99, depending on how much built-in storage theyd like.

The Moto X news doesnt stop there! Motorola says that it plans to update the Moto X to Android 4.4 KitKat soon, which is a piece of news that ought to please both current Moto X owners as well as those thinking about pulling the trigger now that Moto Maker includes all four major US carriers. Taking into consideration the impending update as well as the expanded availability of Moto Maker and the aforementioned price cut, it looks like now might be as good a time as any to snag Motorolas flagship handset. Do any of you plan on reaching for your wallet as soon as youre done reading this post?

Building the perfect Nexus phone

http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/androidandme?i=3DxLsnwnwbc:N4vxBVIGwr8:D7DqB2pKExk

For the Android faithful, the latest Nexus device is considered to be the gold standard for devices. The Nexus features the latest and greatest specs and an Android build straight from Google with none of the standard software bloat that typically accompanies OEM branded phones and tablets. But the appeal of a Nexus phone many times outshines what Google and its partner OEMs are able to deliver.

The recently released Nexus 5 is an impressive piece of hardware when you look at each individual component, but the device itself is understated, featuring a washed out display and a mediocre camera. The good news is that were not here to focus on the Nexus 5's flaws we want to know what the perfect Nexus phone would look like if its processor, storage, display, design, manufacturer, camera and price were all selected by the Android and Me community.

Check back over the next few weeks for new polls focusing on one specific feature of the perfect Nexus phone. Once we have all the data, well pull it all together to give you a look at what an Android and Me specd Nexus phone would offer.

To kick things off, we simply want to know how you would score this years Nexus 5. So, get to clickin.

Verizon adds Moto X with Moto Maker customizations to web store

http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/androidandme?i=5o5A86gRL6U:fh6PKEyBhs4:D7DqB2pKExk

Been patiently waiting for Motorola’s Moto Maker customization tool to open up to more US carriers before picking up a Moto X? If you’re on Verizon, your wait may soon be over. Following rumors that Verizon will be added to Moto Maker on November 11, the big red carrier has added a “Moto X – Designed by You” to its online store. The images show a Moto X with a teal backside, Verizon branding and $99.99 price tag. Unfortunately, the device is also listed as being “temporarily out of stock,” so there’s no way to actually buy a unit quite yet.

Moto Maker allows consumers to customize a Moto X by selecting differently-colored front and back covers, volume buttons, a unique boot screen message and more. It’s been one of the most highly-touted features of the Moto X since Motorola took the wraps off of its new flagship earlier this year, but unfortunately for anyone not on AT&T, Moto Maker has only been available with Ma Bell’s version of the Moto X since then as well.

There haven’t been any official announcements made regarding a Moto Maker expansion quite yet, but the appearance of this custom Moto X on Verizon’s web store certainly seems to give credence to the rumors that more US wireless customers will soon get the chance to let their creativity loose on a Moto X of their very own.

Google Search update reportedly coming soon with voice, location improvements

http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/androidandme?i=rmh26p58o1w:cb0TwcP3TOs:D7DqB2pKExk

Still hungry for some app update goodness after new versions of Hangouts and Google Keyboard began rolling out yesterday? You may not have long to wait before you get your wish. In its review of the Nexus 5, Wired reports that Google has said several new features will be added to the Google Search app on Nov. 13.

The first addition to Google Search will be the ability ask the user questions. The example given is that when the user tells his or her phone to “text Jennifer,” the app will respond with “which Jennifer” and then carry out the command. It’s also said that the new Google Search will be able to search inside of other apps, launch them and even perform tasks inside of them. Finally, Google Now will reportedly utilize location information to deliver more information to a user about his or her surroundings. For example, geyser times at Yellowstone National Park.

Sounds like a pretty spiffy little update, no? It’s certainly not unheard of for Google to add new features and Google Now cards to its Google Search app, but this latest round of goodies sounds particularly exciting. The voice and app features could make it easier and quicker to get things done on a phone or tablet, and the new Google Now cards will provide additional, useful information about a user’s surroundings. Now we just have to wait until next Wednesday for the update to actually begin rolling out.

Oppo: N1 CyanogenMod Edition to begin shipping internationally in December

http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/androidandme?i=TctN4R6GFSM:pMOmExbzB2k:D7DqB2pKExk

After teasing a limited edition version of its flagship N1 with CyanogenMod preinstalled, Oppo today revealed when consumers will be able to start hammering their computer’s F5 key to try and snag one of the unique handsets. The company says that the N1 CyanogenMod Edition will begin shipping in early December for the same price as the standard N1. When it does, the CyanogenMod-ified handset will come with several extra goodies, including CyanogenMod stickers and a special N1 case with both CyanogenMod mascot Cid and Oppo mascot Ollie on it.

CyanogenMod founder Steve Kondik revealed back in September that he and his fellow developers had raised $7 million in funding as part of an effort to launch Cyanogen Inc., a company with the goal of continuing to make CyanogenMod better, safer and easier to install. Cyanogen Inc.’s future plans are still a bit up in the air right now, but teaming up with Oppo on this limited edition N1 is certainly a nice way to get your company’s ball rolling. There’s no word on precisely how limited the N1 CyanogenMod edition will be, so if you’d like to be one of the lucky folks that owns one and show your support for CyanogenMod at the same time, it might be a good idea to start gathering your pennies now.

Verizon’s holiday lineup leaks including dates for custom Moto X, HTC One Max

http://feeds.feedburner.com/~ff/androidandme?i=mEZoIYIWazg:ngmbcULy8d4:D7DqB2pKExk

It’s going to be a white Christmas at Verizon this year. Droid Life, the king of Verizon leaks, has obtained some information they feel comfortable enough to share. Details include Big Red’s holiday lineup this year, as well as release dates for several white variants of already existing phones and HTC’s humongous One Max.

In chronological order:

On November 11, the Verizon Moto X will be available to customize with Motorola’s Moto Maker. The Moto X for Verizon is already down to $99 with a two-year contract, and $499 without. There’s a very good chance prices will stay that way even after landing Moto Maker support.

On November 14, the LG G2 is supposed to launch in white.

On November 21, or close to it, we can expect to see the Verizon branded HTC One Max. Hopefully Verizon doesn’t delay it until next year.

One day later, on November 22, the Droid Ultra and Mini will be available in white as well.

To recap, before the end of the month here, the LG G2, Droid Mini and Ultra will come out in white. The Moto X will be customizable. And we’ll see the release of the One Max. Verizon has a busy month ahead of itself.
