Jelly Bean 4.1 launched over a year ago, and the name hasn’t been changed until just recently. The newest release was Android 4.4 KitKat, but before that, three major releases shared the same name because none of them were huge updates. But according to the newest statistics, Jelly Bean is finally on over half of all devices.
These statistics are straight from Google, based on all of the devices that access Google Servers. Also, those on Android 2.1 Eclair and older will no longer be counted due to having an older version of the Play Store. These statistics are geared towards developers, so those restrictions are very helpful.
Gingerbread, the OS that held the majority for a frightening amount of time, is down to 26.3%. Jelly Bean 4.1 is now at 37.3%, 4.2 is at 12.5%, and 4.3 is at a measly 2.3%. This totals 52.1%. With the new Nexus 5 released, 4.4 will start showing up on this chart. And with the Galaxy S III getting its 4.3 update, Android 4.3 numbers will rise as Android 4.2 numbers will fall.
It’s nice to see Android out of the imaginary slump everyone claimed it was in when a majority of people were on Gingerbread. Since Jelly Bean versions are all almost the same, with very minor changes in between, having more than half of all devices on Jelly Bean is a great situation. What Android version are you using?
