The most disappointing thing about the Moto X wasn’t the mid-range specs, or the price, or even availability. It was the lack of Moto Maker for anyone other than AT&T customers. Sure, if you were on Verizon, T-mobile or Sprint you could still buy the device. But those crazy color combos and welcome messages were reserved for Ma Bell only. Thankfully, it looks like that’s finally coming to an end.

According to some leaked promotional material obtained by Android Central, it looks like Moto Maker will be coming to the Sprint Moto X on November 11. If we had to guess, we’d say the custom phone service should be coming to other carriers and unlocked devices around the same time. Earlier rumblings pointed towards widespread availability closer to the holidays, so it looks like everything is going according to plan. [1]

Also absent from the Moto X launch were real wood backs which are apparently coming soon as well. Evleaks has posted a picture that shows the ability to get a Moto X with an ebony, teak, rosewood or bamboo back for an extra $50. Hopefully before the end of the month, anyone on any carrier can get any color Moto X they want, even wood. [2]

Now that the Nexus 5 has launched, the Moto X has some stiff competition in the stock Android race. But custom colors and always-on voice actions could keep the device ahead of the pack. Is this the news you’ve been waiting for, or are you all Moto X’ed out?
